Say it with me. "Volleyball is FUN!"

Tell me, why is it that when a child admits that she actually enjoyed something that she insisted she wouldn't like but her mother said she would, like, say...oh, I dunno...volleyball, for instance, and the mother says, "Aha," the child replies with, "You know what? I'm never going to tell you that I like something again."

Why is it that the child doesn't say, "You know, Mother dear, you were so very correct in your assessment and I do believe that from here to eternity, I will trust your wise, insightful judgement and will never again insist that said activity will be no fun, lame, and, basically, right out"? Why is that, exactly?

Does anyone know?
